About the Event
Come on down Thursday, Aug 31 to catch these travelling musicians from Halifax: Ian Van der Wee, and Long Call!
Long Call is sister/brother duo Avalon and Landen Moore. Drawing on indie, folk rock, and synth pop influences, the two sing (and occasionally shout) into the void, crafting multi-layered music that aims to drain the bitterness from heartbreak and to electrify the soft edges of longing. Using a collaborative and intuitive approach, both siblings take turns leading vocals, songwriting, and production in order to lean wholeheartedly into each song’s particularity. Since the band’s formation in the fall of 2020, Long Call has released five self-produced singles, completed an independently managed and promoted two month cross-Canada tour in the summer of 2022, and received Canada Council for the Arts funding to create their upcoming debut album.
Ian Van der Wee is a singer-songwriter who pairs dynamic live performance with unassuming lyrical strength and tenderness. Shifting from powerful cries to gentle invitations, he brings you through the full depth of his experience. Ian’s most recent endeavour was as half of the country-folk duo Charlie & Ian, an act with piercing presence and delicate harmonies. Since his debut as a performing artist in 2019, Ian Van der Wee has released two self-produced albums, performed regularly in Vancouver and Halifax, and completed an independently managed cross-Canada tour in the summer of 2022.
Entry by donation. Please note that seating is first-come-first-serve, and don't forget donation cash for the artist! (Credit/debit donations accepted at the bar or with your server).
